Mental health care should be accessible to everyone—but that vision is still out of reach for far too many. The current system continues to leave both patients and caregivers overwhelmed, and in too many cases, left behind.
Every day, far too many people in Canada feel lost—struggling to find their way to mental health support. Twelve people die by suicide in Canada every single day, and suicide remains the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults. For those trying to help loved ones, the effects are just as severe: nearly one in three working caregivers experiences burnout and almost half report that caregiving negatively affects their mental health.
Building a Clear Path Forward
CAMH is working to forge a new path—by breaking down confusing barriers, connecting people to care sooner, and leading collaborations that create real change:
- A pill for post-partum depression: CAMH is redefining what effective mental health care looks like. Donor-funded research leads to treatments that are more personalized, more precise and rooted in science. Blues Away®: CAMH-developed postpartum supplement—now expanding globally as a safe, standardized option for new mothers to support their mental health.
- Accessibility Initiatives: CAMH’s 2025–2030 Accessibility Plan is removing obstacles by redesigning services, consulting widely with people who have lived experience, and prioritizing seamless, equitable access for all.
- Systems Leadership: As Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital, CAMH is advocating for policy changes and new care models so every person in Canada—regardless of their situation or background—can access support without confusion or inequity.
Join the Movement
We can’t accept the status quo—not when lives are at stake. Real solutions are within reach, but we need a united movement to demand a mental health system that’s clear, supportive, and accessible to all.
